Maggie's Glasgow Gartnavel to feature in architectural exhibition and nominated for design award
The centre will be a part of the OMA/Progress season at the Barbican Art Gallery and has just been nominated for one of the Design Museum's Designs of the Year awards
Maggie's Glasgow Gartnavel, which opened in October 2011, is to feautre in the Barbican Art Gallery's OMA/Progress exhibition. Designed by OMA's Pritzker Prize winning architect Rem Koolhaas, the centre is a single level building in the form of a ring of interlocking rooms surrounding a landscaped courtyard.
Between 7 and 10pm on Thursday 16 February 2012, the Barbican Art Gallery will host 'Celebrating Maggie's'. The evening that will inform visitors how Maggie's supports people affected by cancer and how Rem Koolhaas worked on his design for Maggie's Glasgow Gartnavel. There will also be welcoming introductions from Maggie's co-founder Charles Jencks and OMA Partner Ellen Van Loon, a centre-inspired creation from Jellymonger Bompas & Parr and a raffle in support of Maggie's.

Maggie's Glasgow Gartnavel, which was built from funds raised by Walk the Walk's Edinburgh Moonwalkers, is the second Maggie's Centre in Glasgow. The centre is positioned close to the Beatson Oncology Centre on the Gartnavel Hospital site. Surrounding the centre is a wooded garden designed by Lily Jencks, daughter of Maggie's Founders, Maggie Keswick Jencks and Charles Jencks.
The centre has also been nominated in the Design Museum's prestigious Design of the Year awards, under the the Architecture category. The designs from this year's awards, including Maggie's Glasgow Gartnavel, will be on public display at the museum from Wednesday 8 February 2012. The winners of the awards will be announced on the night of Tuesday 24 April 2012.
